Okay first Ben Stein is truly one of my all time favorite characters from Ferris Bueller's Day off. Allegedly he is one of the top smartest people in the world. I went to the theater with a few friends on a late night showing and unfortunately we were the only ones there. Ben Stein uses a Lee Strobel type investigative reporting style to look at the evidence, the players, and the issues surrounding the problems with Evolution. Ben does not necessarily take a Theistic attitude towards the explanation, moreover he really is just exposing the holes for the theory of macro evolution. In addition he exposes how the "scientific community" hates God so much that they are willing to blind themselves to the facts and even ostracizes scientists when anyone questions their beloved theory of evolution.
What amazed me about this movie is that Ben did not hesitate interviewing those for and against. I believe that he definitely showed Richard Dawkins to be not only quite fanatical about his religion of Atheism, but when confronted with the facts, Dawkins ascribed to an Alien Pan-Spermia theory. Pan-Spermia is the belief that Aliens seeded our planet, because a cell is so complex it could not have formed from mud and lighting like the Evolutionist wants you to believe. Because of this there are tons of hair brained theories that will not allow for an Intelligent Designer. It is too bad really that science does not look at the evidence and put away their unregenerate God-hating presuppositions to just examine the facts and let the conclusions lead where they may. Ben does a great job of showing this in his video. Most Evolutionist really just hate the Christian God of the Bible and therefore reject an thought of Intelligent Designer.
So in conclusion, it is a great movie, I highly recommend you go see it, please understand this is not some boring, sensationalized, fictitious documentary like Micheal Moore puts out. Ben is creative with this, they utilize animation (the one with Dawkins is hilarious) and some old television clips that really add to the entertainment value of this film.

Thirty Signs you might be Emergent
Thanks for this Leonard!
30. Your church has replaced the pulpit with a bar stool (and possibly a bar or your church is in a bar).
29. You once read a good story about some Jewish people and a cross.
28. You engineer every conversation so you are able to use the phrase, "you can't put god in a box," and laugh like you've said the funniest thing in the word.
27. You make everyone define everything before you begin a conversation. Since this takes forever you never really have a conversation.
26. You think hell is a construct somewhere in Tennessee.
25. You think everything is a metaphor for something else.
24. When you hear the word "Orthodox" all you think about is the great food at the Greek Festival every year.
23. You think "Patristics" is a new brand of snack food.
22. Church history started when your pastor was born.
21. The only Creed you know is a once-popular musical act.
20. You only curse around fundamentalists.
19. You leave your church because the sermon was not obscure enough.
18. You refer to your local assembly as "church," "synagogue," or "mosque" depending on who you are talking to.
17. Your blog is a rant about how everyone else rants too much.
16. You brag that you have never been pinned down theologically on any issue.
15. The only thing you are sure of is that others cannot be sure of anything.
14. You bring your own wine to communion.
13. You are offended when someone says they are going to "Preach the Gospel" or "Teach the truth" believing they should just "Tell a story."
12. Instead of a tract, you carry a can of Play-doh in your back pocket.
11. Your website links to Green Peace and the Democratic National Convention just because conservatives are against it.
10. You start a Christian blog, but leave it blank, fearing that you might offend someone.
9. You are not any good at art, yet you continue to present the Gospel by painting stick figures on recycled paper.
8. When you present the Gospel, Heaven is renamed The Matrix and you call Christ Neo.
7. Your church caters from Whole Foods.
6. Every sermon illustration begins with "The other night I was drinking a beer and . . .".
5. You have yet to read the book of Romans believing Paul was too modern in his thinking.
4. Your car has a bumper sticker that reads "I think my boss is a Jewish carpenter but I can't know for certain."
3. You don't worship on Sundays because everyone else does.
2. You evaluate truth by asking how many people hold to it. If it is too popular, then it is wrong.
1. When someone calls out your name you get angry saying, "Don't label me."

Aletheia Truth
As I reflect on the last day of the conference one of the conversations I had with a friend of mine while I was there was the amazing differences between good teachers of the Word and those that are not so good. What I mean is that there are some really excellent teachers of God's Word they teach and proclaim truth from it, they exegete the text in the Bible and deliver Expository teaching that astounds you.
The teaching I get every week is phenomenal. I have always wondered what sets my Pastor apart to be able to help illuminate and reveal God's Word in such an amazing way. This weekend I found out the answer as several of the men who had an impact on him came and gave a Bible Conference in Utah. It was truly astounding, it was like drinking water from a Fire Hydrant!
So my friend and I have been trying to relay this information to others, and for some reason have not been able to convey adequately that there is such a huge difference in the teaching that is available. I think it is so vitally important that in the short while that we get to be here that we get the best teaching possible so we can apply and do the most to Glorify God with our lives. I pray that the Lord will help me communicate better about these things.

Review of First Day at the Aletheia Bible Conference
The Aletheia (Truth) Bible Conference began last night. Personally I had very high expectations for this conference. Let me tell you they have all been exceeded. The line up of speakers includes the President of Dallas Theological Seminary, A phenemenol Old Testament Professor and Bill Eubanks who is bringing some original Greek Manuscripts of the Bible with him to put out on display.
The conference speakers are focusing on the life of David. So far we have covered part 1 and part 2 of David, his failures and his faith. Truly I am blown away by the in depth knowledge and coverage of a man who is described in the Bible as one after Gods own heart. Yet David had serious issues and how that pertains to our Christian walk is so very important. I will continue to post on this topic for a day or two as it will be fresh in my mind. I will also include a link where you can get the CD's for the conference.

The Mormon Church claimes it has denounced Polygamy?
On KSL there is an article which links you to a video that the LDS Church put out explaining how they no longer practice Polygamy. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=3053045
The problem that we have is that in the LDS "Scriptures" there is still a place where is commands Polygamy to happen. Since these are the Prophets words it is interesting that they have been purposefully ignored. But something else needs to be addressed here, the Mormon Church does not want to be affiliated with the Fundamentalist Mormons. In fact they are trying to reclaim the name Mormon back. Ironically if you have ever spoken with a Mormon about Christianity they claim to be Christian despite the fact that they denounce all major Christian Beliefs. Yet they insist on being called Christian. Who has the rights to the names Christian and Mormon?
This is what their scriptures say about Polygamy.
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/dc/132/58-66#58
from 58-66 it discusses the qualifications for the Priesthood of the Mormon Church and Polygamy is a requirement. In addition they also believe in Polygamy in the after life. If you are a man you will have multiple wives in Heaven in which you will rule your own world when you die.
In 1890 the LDS church denounced Polygamy, due to pressure from the US Government. At that time is when groups like the FLDS split off and continued practicing the religion that Joseph Smith started. Joseph Smith practiced Polygamy and was obviously a firm believer in it. Here is another great article.
http://www.mrm.org/topics/marriage-family/polygamy-dilemma-plural-marriage-dead-issue-mormonism
Finally then the Government in Utah has stated that they will not do anything about the Polygamy in Utah unless abuse actions are filed? If it is illegal then shouldn't action be taken?
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=3054784
So who is more closely related to the teachings of Joseph Smith and why is it that in Utah we do not prosecute that which is illegal?

Calvinist (James White) vs. a ????
Here is a great debate that is a 5 part series on the Doctrines of Grace.
James White debates Stephen Gregg. I am not sure what Gregg's position is at all he is all over the board but it appears he might be sympathetic to Open Theism.
