On Monday morning I was in a sour mood and was praying to God for relief. My relief came in the form of two Jevhovah's Witnesses at the door. Oh boy, my despair immediately turned to gratitude for such a great opportunity. In Utah we do not get many JW's so I was very excited. I answered and let them give their spiel and they asked me if I had a Bible I said yes, and they asked which translation I said I got most of them and so I grabbed a NKJV. They took me to a few verses that proved God is love. I agreed with them, and pointed out that is not his only quality. After they kept using Jehovah as a name over and over I asked them what their Gospel was. To everything I asked I got a "Well...... and after a pause a limited response. This was especially true as we talked about salvation. See they have a very different concept of salvation and when we got on the topic of Hell the lesser of the two said "God would never torture someone." I simply asked how they define torture and she said "Hell is torture" I asked her to show me which verse that is, and she said well it is in there. Which is a common response from those who really do not know. They could not tell me what hope there was in their belief other than the denial of Hell, which is ironic because that is what Jesus warned about. I took them to 2 Thessalonians 1:8,9 and their Bible said something that was no where near accurate so I showed them from my NKJV. For other reference (Revelation 21:8 : Revelation 22:15; 1 Cor 6:9, 10; Gal 5:19-21; Eph 5:5; 1 Tim 1:9; Heb 12:14)
"in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,"
I showed them how destruction does not mean annihilation that it is everlasting and not ceasing. Again they did not care because the Watchtower has told them otherwise.
So I then asked them why they said I could use my translation and why it was so different. They proceeded to tell me how the Watchtower were better translaters. I had to hold in a laugh because even with one semester of Greek I can see clearly how the Watchtower does not translate very well especially verses that bother them like John 1:1-3, which by the way in the Greek is so Trinitarian there is no question God consists of the Trinity.
So I asked them what they do with Colossians 2:9 and again they said well.... and they had no answer "For in Him (Jesus) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;" I said so the fullness of Jehovah dwells in Jesus Christ. And they said no that Jesus was Micheal the Archangel etc. I asked what verse was that and again they had no answer. She wanted to attack my semantics so we went back to salvation and she told me how she will go to sleep and then possibly be resurrected with Jesus, not with the 144,000 though. I said then why did Jesus die? She said for "this life" I said what about this life did Jesus die for? She said well it was not on a CROSS! I had to get further explanation of that because they believe because the Bible refers to the Cross in one verse as a tree (prophetic verse) that it was not in fact a Cross but a stake. (I guess that means Luke 23:26 was translated wrong and 98 other verses) I realized that these guys were simply trained to attack Christian Doctrine much like the Mormons who come to my door. So I used the tiebreaker on them.... if they are right and I am wrong then what.... she said well nothing I will go to sleep. I said ok, but if the Bible is right and they are wrong they will bed judged and sent to Hell forever and they have been preaching that Christ was not Lord and God will hold them accountable for that.....The lesser of the two looked sullen at this point at it appears something got her and the elder of the two ushered her away. I said good bye and I said another parting thought it must be hard for you here in Utah. They nodded their heads. :) (One false religion preaching to another)

Quotes I Love

Just recently I heard these quotes from a man I respect greatly.
"The idea of Eternal Life is not just a future event it begins right now"
He is referring to the fact that changed lives occur when God saves someone.
"Just because people proclaim truth, that needs to be matched with fruits of the Spirit"
Does your preaching and your life mesh up?
"Do you get saved by Grace but then must live by works?"
I think so often I see people living under a banner of works based righteousness, unintentionally or legalistically. Do not get me wrong, works are an outflow of the Grace God has given you, but it is not a saving works, or a status works like some make it out to be.

God Saves, Why Evangelize
This is a clip from the Amazing Grace DVD. If you havent seen it go get it.
"God has called me to preach His word and if I knew that all the elect had a yellow stripe painted down their backs, then I would give up preaching the Gospel and go and lift up shirt tails!"
- Charles Spurgeon
