Here is an exceedingly great article from an Astrophysist that is associated with AIG. The article delves into logical fallacies the inductive and deductive arguments. The irony here is many times if not all the inductive arguments are based upon assumptions, now sometimes they are likely assumptions, but they are assumptions nontheless. As Christians we need to be wary of making this mistake, an argument needs to have a logical reason to be deducted from. So lets focus our conversations from Logical deductions rather than assumptions.

Grace it is The answer

Just recently I have fell in love with Romans, this particular book of the Bible is not only challenging but contains so much of our Theology in a nice little package. In fact when people have questions about the Christian Faith I will typically turn to Romans first. Many times the answer has been right there. Here are just a few things that have jumped out at me. This is by no means a comprehensive list or study just merely my interaction with the text.

Romans 8 discusses the believers and God's Soverign plan,
Romans 9 answers the questions about who is the author of Salvation and why God does some things that he does.
Romans 1:16 speaks about who the Gospel is for
Romans 1:18-32 delves into the question about what about those who have not heard the Gospel, that Eternity is in the Hearts of all men.
Romans 2 arranges an argument against our judgement in favor of God's judgement and that it is righteous. Pay close attention to Romans 2:4 4Or do you presume on(C) the riches of his kindness and(D) forbearance and(E) patience,(F) not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? What it is God's kindness that leads to repentance?

So those are just several of the important verses in Romans, there are many more and feel free to add in the comments section.... Well then why is this post about Grace you say? Simply because Romans yet again has the answer in fact there is a whole argument that Paul sets up about Grace here, this argument is very similar to what is discussed in Ephesians 2:8,9 and Titus 3:5 here is the passsage with some context

5So too at the present time there is(B) a remnant, chosen by grace. 6(C) But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

7What then?(D) Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest(E) were hardened,

There is so much Theology packed into these little verses that it would take hours to really go through it all. What we see here in verse 6 is that if it is by Grace it is no longer works, and that if you even apply works there is no grace at all. This is paramount for Christians, Non-Christians and even Unbelievers. God has choosen and has given Grace which as we see in Romans 2:4 is from HIS kindness. So how do people gloss over these many verses and answers and formulate their own justifications and understanding as they pertain to the Theology of Grace.... well I belive that Romans again has the answer see Romans beginning at verse 1:21. God gave them over to their lusts and foolish desires. God allows men to come up with alternate explainations that do not fit a plan which glorifies God alone!

As Christians we need to have the answers 1 Peter tells us, and the answers although not always in Romans are there and they are plain to see, yet for some reason our own eyes can be darkened. I would ask that you pray that God would shed a light on your study and your reading, it appears that the only light that illuminates comes from Him. We also need to be very cognicent of creating a God we are more comfortable with or one that seeks to give us prosperity.

Notice how many times they use the word "design" and how they try to explain away many things by saying it was "designed" and then "natural selection" cleaned it up. It is so mixed with their preconceived worldview that it is borderline funny. Just using basic logic you can easily dismiss any of their arguments. For instance when they discuss the eye they say it has a blind spot and hence it is a flaw (apparently by the designer) but then natural selection cleans this up by making the eye vibrate a little...WHAT!? They eye has always done that, what they need to do is prove otherwise, it was designed to move like that by a designer!

And I am not a scientist but the blueprint is in the DNA? Or do you mean the actual first man which was the original model for all men.... his name was "Adam".

Atonement is it Limited

Charles Spurgeon once said "I may be called Antinomian or Calvinist for preaching a limited atonement; but I had rather believe a limited atonement that is efficacious for all men for whom it was intended, than a universal atonement that is not efficacious for anybody, except the will of man be joined with it."

I get asked this question by many people being DoI would agree with the Reformed position on Limited Atonement? So if I may, I want to break it down for my readers as it has been done many other times by many other people.

First every Christian believes the atonement is limited in some way. At least they would say the effect is limited. The "scope" is what is usually debated. The reason is if you do not believe the atonement is at least limited to those who believe then you would not be a Christian you would be a Universalist.

Second if you believe in God's Sovereignty then you at least believe in his foreknowledge. The difference is a reformed person believes that if it is in God's foreknowledge then it is a part of His will. See God's will and foreknowledge are inseparable because if He knows what is to happen that would also be his will, otherwise things would happen outside of his will.

So this results in God's foreknowledge knowing who will come to Him and who will not, if that then is also his will then he has chosen those who are his.

This is the most simple way I can break it down. Did Christ make salvation merely possible or did he truly make it secure?

Please note I have many friends who disagree with me on this position and have some great arguments. I respect their interaction greatly.

NBC's lies and lack of consistency during Superbowl

NBC has said it will not air the ad during the Superbowl that shows an ultrasound asking for people to give every life a chance see my post on this. If they do not run advocacy ads then how about the United Way and PETA ads? I think what they meant to say is that they will not support life if it is in the womb. On the other hand "nipples" are fair game as long as they aren't making a statement?

I have been reminded of how incredible the power of God is and how absolutely nothing is impossible for our Lord by following the story of Kayleigh Anne Freeman. Kayleigh is an amazing baby, now nearing 7 months old, who was born weighing 1 lb, 1oz. The Lord gave her to the most incredible parents, whose faith and trust in the sovereignty of God has inspired me as both a follower of Christ and as a parent. Kayleigh has been a witness to many people (doctors, nurses, unbelievers) of God's glory and power over everything in this world. Seeing the pictures of Kayleigh when she was first born, weighing less than one pound- shows unequivocably how perfect and delicate and incredible human life is. The true magnificence of God can be easily seen in the miracle of a baby. Please pray for Kayleigh and encourage the Freeman family, as God is glorified.

It is "unamerican to express your opinion" according to Tom Hanks

Interesting how money and politics seem to go hand in hand. As the Executive Producer of the HBO hit series "Big Love", Tom Hanks is making big bucks from his popular show which examines the drama of modern day polygamy. Big Love exposes the black sheep of the Mormon Church, the FLDS - and its commitment to preserving what it believes is true Joseph Smith doctrine or what they refer to as "The Principle". I have personally seen the show "Big Love" and think it shows a pretty intense portrayal of this lifestyle and if you live in Utah, there are a lot of things that you will find familiar to the culture in which we live.

However, while Tom Hanks adds to his personal wealth by exploiting this aspect of Mormon theological controversy, he nonetheless takes a pot shot at the LDS Church, essentially biting the hand that has fed him well season after season. Now I do not personally agree with Mormon theology, polygamy or homosexual marriage, but as Bill McKeever says in the interview "they (Mormons) have a right to express their opinion." Just as Tom Hanks has a right to his opinion on this issue, but to throw out the term "un-American" to anyone who supports Proposition 8, is as repulsing as the use of a racial slur or any other cheap shot to try to add value or throw weight behind a worthless and tasteless statement. Mr. Hanks, the very essence of America is the ability and right to have gracious disagreements and respect that we all have the right to our opinions, without being tagged as unpatriotic.

Hanks desribes anyone who disagrees with his ideology that Proposition 8 should not have been passed, as being "un-American". This term merely shows the irony of the mandate he puts out that his opinion is superior to anyone elses. To throw the term un-American at anyone who doesn't share his opinion is hipocritical from its core. Obviously, Mr. Hanks needs to spend more time studying our Constitution and the history of our great nation. The American way is putting something to a vote and having the people vote on it. The people of California voted- and they voted to preserve traditional marriage between one man and one woman

Why Hitler is a bad role model for Emergents.

It seems that the Emergents think that it is humorous to have Hitler in a mocking portrayal about their leader stepping down.

I find this interesting because when Hitler rose to power of the 14,000 Christian Churches only 800 did not sign Hitlers agreement that said Hitler himself was chosen by God to rule Germany (and really the world). So only 800 of 14,000 Churches stood for truth even when it hurt. I wonder where the Emergents will stand when the Fairness Doctrine, Homosexuality Issues, Socialism, and Deaths of Millions of innocent babies.... oh wait they stand with those responsible for those injustices. Note that is why the infamous "Matthew 25 Network" was formed.

If their chosen leader Obama asks them to sign a similar agreement, maybe one that also declares all religions believe the same thing and point to the same place I think you will see many Emergent Churches signing off faster than you can believe.

Hitler killed off more than 3 Million Christians when he rose to power, this information is largely not expressed in the post-modern society we live in. Largely this is due to the fact that many "post-moderns" cannot even say that what Hitler did was WRONG. These post-moderns are the same people who follow Obama, Brian Maclaren, Rob Bell, Doug Pagitt and the rest of their heretic group. Why? They follow these guys because not one of them believes in an absolute at all, the are post modern relativists. So the Hitler video is not funny, it is sad because a wicked evil man like Hitler is no one you want to associate with.

This was an email that circulated in late October, but I find it worth posting. Allegedly David Letterman wrote it but I am not sure that is the case.

“As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark.

The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?'

A. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

C. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

D. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

E. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state.

F. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

G. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either.

H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

I. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.

J. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

M. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?

Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?

Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad? Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom.

There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable' discharge after a few days in
the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?

Say what you want, but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sell s, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!

Turn off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad. We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.' The Christians who started this Country knew what it meant to give "Thanks" to God. As the Godless people continue to rewrite the History of our nation we start to demean things like Thanksgiving and they start adding falsehoods about the celebration, in each of these revisions you hear about the "horrible people" who came to settle this Country. When in reality not all the people were bad and in fact most all of them were here because of their belief in God. From Christopher Columbus realizing the world was round because of the Bible to, the Puritans preaching the Gospel freely here, even being missionaries to the natives. So it is a good reminder to give "Thanks" to God for all that he has blessed us with and the fact that his Grace is sufficient for those who trust in Him.

The heart that is constantly over flowing with gratitude will be safe from those attacks of resentfulness and gloom that bother so many persons.

bicycle he was riding collided
with a large truck. The crash
occurred on G Street near Oak
Street. Dead is James Shelvy
Jones, 40, of Grants Pass.
Detectives reported that a

Gerald Eugene Mercer, 73, was
involved in the accident, which
occurred around 1:27 p.m.
The truck may have been coming
from a nearby construction
zone, farther west on G Street.
Otis Farrell said he was riding
a bicycle westbound on G
Street and was a witness to the
crash.
He said the bicyclist was
northbound and did not stop
before entering G Street, apparently
from Oak Street, in front
of the eastbound truck.
The truck swerved to its left,
but “the truck driver didn’t have
a chance to hit his brakes,” Farrell
said.
More than a dozen public
safety personnel, two fire
trucks, an ambulance, a police
motorcycle, several police cars
and two public safety pickups
converged on the scene. A section
of G Street was closed and
traffic was detoured around the
scene.
The investigation is ongoing

Forgiveness is supernatural

If you think about it there are many things that are beyond naturalistic explanation. Love, mercy, compassion, and forgiveness are just a few things that the world and science cannot contemplate or use naturalistic rationalizations. I want to contend that this is proof for the existence of God. These things which are hardwired into us have no other explanation other than a being who is beyond our capabilities imparting those on us. I have experienced much forgiveness in my life by a God who is merciful on me..... but how often do we forgive others? This is my personal challenge to make sure that I have forgiven even the least of issues and the people associated with those things. Have you forgiven lately?

Irony of the "anti" and "hate" speech

If you did not know already Proposition 8 which essentially keeps Marriage to a man and a woman passed. During the weeks before the voting Mormons, Evangelicals, Catholics and Secular groups all appealed to their spheres of influence to make sure they voted consistently with their "worldview". The Mormon Church got a lot of publicity for sending out information and telling their members to vote for Proposition 8. Some of this could have been due to the fact that Steve Young (a professing Mormon) was in the media with his opinion on the topic.

So flash forward to today, Proposition 8 passes and the Homosexual community is up in arms about it. They decidedly went after the Mormon Church and began protesting at their temples calling Mormons names like "Bigots" and "Haters".

What I find ironic is that the Mormons are being accused of something which is not true, that of being "hateful" to the Homosexual Community. I know that they do not hate them in any way, they just are professing their worldview and voting their ideology. The irony is that Mormons often do this to Evangelicals or anyone disagreeing with Mormon doctrine or theology that they are "anti" which is synonymous in their use as "hateful" towards the Mormons because they disagree on these things.

I pray that this will be a valuable lesson for those that use this type of pejorative rhetoric, that just because people disagree does not mean they hate anyone. We need to start separating ideas and people in these discussions. Tolerance is not agreeing with the other side it is permissibly enduring them.

Over at Purgos there is a great article written on what Christians "in the Kingdom" should be considering when they go to the voting booths. This article is very articulate and fair on this issue.

The need for a hierarchy of issues when going to the voting booth is obvious since there is no candidate whose worldview matches completely the biblical worldview that the Scripture calls each Christian to possess. But we measure worldviews in degrees not merely in “right” and “wrong”. Some are more right than others and some are more wrong than others.

Mainstream media finally covers the Christian persecution in India

Bloody anti-Christian riots broke out here in late August, rampages by Hindu hard-liners that since then have left at least 38 people dead, as many as 30,000 homeless and dozen of churches destroyed. The worst of the violence ended after a week or so, when authorities finally deployed soldiers to set up checkpoints and relief camps.

Since Eastern Philosophy has permeated our Culture this is coming to a town near you. Especially considering the potential if Obama takes office.

I am not even what sure he said, he dodged the issue, jumped over the question and tried to sound "Christian". Yes there is a moral and ethical element to the issue because it is "wrong". There is NO COMMON GROUND if it is morally wrong! He says he is in favor of stopping "late term abortions" yet he supports FOCA (see few posts below) which will allow abortions into the 9th month!

This is the reason I think as Christians we have to vote for a guy who will help the "least of these". Even in spite of everything else. I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Freedom of Choice Act and Obama

Some Christians claim otherwise. But in his July 17, 2007 speech to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund Obama said,

"We know that a woman's right to make a decision about how many children she wants to have and when— without government interference—is one of the most fundamental freedoms we have in this country. . . . I have worked on this issue for decades now. I put Roe at the center of my lesson plan on reproductive freedom when I taught constitutional law. . . So, you know where I stand. . . The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do."

What is the Freedom of Choice Act?

The pro-abortion lobby is pushing this bill which will knock down every single restriction on abortion in this country. Effects of this bill include:

1. Partial-birth abortion, or the dismembering of babies as they are being born, will now be legal.

2. Parental consent laws for minors will no longer be in effect. Although a seventeen-year-old girl has to have her parents present in order to get acne medicine, a thirteen-year-old can get an abortion without her parents knowing. Think of the injury done to these young women, as well as to their children!

3. Laws prohibiting public funding of abortion will be struck down. The American taxpayer will now have to fund something many of us know to be murder.

4. Laws requiring women to be shown information about and alternatives to abortion will be struck down.

5. Laws allowing medical staff and hospitals to refuse to perform abortion on grounds of conscience will be struck down. (Where's the freedom of choice here?)

6. Laws prohibiting medical personnel other than licensed physicians from performing abortions would be invalidated because they may "interfere with" access to abortion. (Talk about protection for women!)

7. Government agencies and officials are prohibited from taking any action that would "discriminate against the exercise of" the FOCA-created legal rights, with respect to any "benefits, facilities, services, or information," would leave government officials open to lawsuits for anything that anybody thought "discriminate(s)" against abortion.

Barack Obama said that he will pass this law if he is elected (http://www.barackobama.com/2008/01/22/obama_statement_on_35th_annive.php).

Legalized abortion on demand has pitted mother against child and has created a culture of death that forces women to choose between their children and their educations, jobs, and housing. We need REAL, life-affirming solutions to difficult pregnancies, not more of the same. We need laws that support the rights of mothers and babies, not laws that, like FOCA, abandon women and their children to the unregulated greed of the abortion industry.

FOCA defends "to the death" a choice that is invalid in the first place - the idea that mothers and their children are enemies. Legalized abortion perpetuates the status quo - that a pregnant woman must choose between meeting her child's needs and her own. We can do better than that - we can and we must love them both. We can and we must change the status quo in this country that says that abortion is an acceptable solution to an unexpected pregnancy. We can and we must offer creative and practical solutions that identify and solve the root causes that drive women to abortion. FOCA perpetuates more of the same and does NOTHING to eliminate the root causes that drive women to abortion in the first place.

Furthermore, FOCA eliminates the freedom of pro-life doctors to refuse to perform abortions. Doctors who continue to refuse to perform abortions could be sued and barred from practice. Fewer doctors = higher healthcare costs for Americans and unemployed doctors.

So how can anyone who follows Jesus Christ consider this guy for President? I do not think you can do both.

There has been some discussion recently on another Mormon Coffee thread about the biblical definition of the word “Christian.” Some years ago I studied out this question. When I had my answer I wrote the following:

What is a Christian?

The word “Christian” is used 3 times in the New Testament.

“…And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.” Acts 11:26

“And Agrippa said to Paul, ‘In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?’” Acts 26:28

“Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.” 1 Peter 4:16

The Greek word, ‘Christianos,’ means simply “follower of Christ.”

What does it mean to follow Christ?

“And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.’” Luke 9:23

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” Matthew 7:13, 14

“‘And you know the way to where I am going.’” Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:4-6

One who follows Christ is one who does the will of the Father.

What is the Will of the Father?

“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:40

“Then they said to him, ‘What must we do, to be doing the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.’” John 6:28, 29

“And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.” 1 John 3:23

The will of the Father is to believe in Christ.

What does it mean to believe in Christ?

“You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!” James 2:19

“And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, ‘What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.’” Mark 1:23, 24

Clearly the belief of these demons, recognizing who Jesus is and understanding His presence, is not what Scripture refers to when we are told to “believe in Him.”

What does it mean to believe in Christ?

“…’The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, ‘Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Romans 10:8-13

“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” John 3:18

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12

Believing in Christ is not just a head knowledge, but requires complete trust and reliance on Christ, and Christ alone, for all that salvation means.

What is Salvation?

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.” Romans 5:8, 9

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” John 5:24

“And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him.” Colossians 1:21, 22

Salvation, then, is being justified by Christ’s blood, saved from the wrath of God, passing from death into life, being presented unto God holy and pure.

Where is Salvation’s Eternity?

“If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.” John 12:26

“…If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father…” John 14:28

The eternal dwelling place of those saved through Christ is in God’s presence, in His kingdom.

What is a Christian?

A Christian is a follower of Christ. A follower of Christ is one who does the will of the Father. The will of the Father is believing in Christ. Believing is not merely acknowledging, but trusting Christ alone for personal salvation. Personal salvation is being reconciled to God, having the promise of spending eternity in His presence.

The relevant question we are tempted to ask here, then, is “According to the biblical definition, are Mormons Christians?” This is not a question we can answer; thirteen million Mormons represent thirteen million different hearts. We can, however, look at the LDS faith system and examine the gospel it promotes. We can determine if Mormonism helps or hinders a person who desires to be a true follower of Christ.

Setting aside, for this discussion, the question of who the Christ of Mormonism actually is, my erstwhile essay on the biblical definition of “Christian” continued,

As we have seen, God has a specific definition attached to the word ‘believe’ when He reveals salvation and His Son to us in Scripture. Mormon doctrine does not allow for the granting of personal salvation to those who trust in Christ alone to be reconciled to God.

[Consider what] Brigham Young taught:

“no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith. From the day that the Priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding-up scene of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are…” (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, p. 289)

“All those who believe in their hearts and confess with their mouths that Joseph Smith is a true Prophet, at the same time trying with their might to live the holy principles Joseph the Prophet has revealed, are in possession of the Holy Spirit of God and are entitled to a fullness.” (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 9, p. 312)

The Book of Mormon…says:

“For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.” (2 Nephi 25:23)

Joseph Smith, the LDS Priesthood, personal worthiness…Mormonism teaches that God requires all of this (and more) to be added and combined with Christ, in order for an individual to gain a place in God’s presence for eternity. Therefore, based on my understanding of the biblical definition of “Christian,” I regard Mormonism to be a severe obstruction for any Latter-day Saint longing to follow Christ.
